Abstract :
Electronic waste (e-waste) has become one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally due to rapid technological
advancement, increased consumption of electrical and electronic equipment, and inadequate end-of-life management
practices. This study assessed the impact of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy on electronic waste
management in Port Harcourt Metropolis, Rivers State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined the perceived impacts of
the EPR policy on e-waste management, evaluated the implementation of the policy by the National Environmental
Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), and identified the challenges encountered by stakeholders in
implementing the policy. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Data were collected using a
structured questionnaire administered to 387 respondents comprising households, business owners, producers, consumers,
recyclers, and government officials selected through multistage sampling. Descriptive statistics, including frequency counts
and percentages, were used to summarize respondents' perceptions, while independent samples t-test was employed to
determine significant differences between respondents who agreed and those who disagreed with the study variables at a
0.05 level of significance.
