Abstract : There is currently no consensus on a universally acceptable motivation theory; this is largely due to differing views on the key issues such a theory should address. This study therefore proposes a model to explain the relationship between motivation, resistance and productivity, with the aim of advancing motivation theory. The target population comprised craftsmen in construction firms in Lagos, Nigeria. Based on the review of literature, 16 resistance variables were identified and used to develop a structured questionnaire. The instrument used 5-point likert scale, where 1= very low and 5= very high. A total of 295 questionnaires were administered, out of which 150 were retrieved and found useable. Data were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis. The findings reveal a strong and significant relationship between motivation and productivity. The study concludes that the impact of resistance among workers is insignificant as to impair productivity attainment in the construction industry.
