Effect of Work Environment on Employees’ Productivity in Listed Consumer Goods Manufacturing Firms in Nigeria

Abstract : Companies have come to realize the importance of comfort in the workplace environment, improving on functional ergonomic elements in order to retain quality personnel, increase productivity, and maintain a competitive edge. This study examined the effect of work environment on employees’ productivity in listed consumer goods manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 480 employees from the sixteen listed firms and data were gathered through structured Questionnaires. Multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Based on the analysis, the result revealed that the work environment (i.e supervisory supports, physical work environment, corporate culture) have a significant effect on employees’ productivity in the listed consumer goods manufacturing firms in Nigeria.The findings reflected that supervisory supports, physical work environment, and corporate culture affect employees’ productivity positively. Therefore, it was recommended that firms should have in place a good working condition for their employees’ in order to boost their morale and make them more efficient and management should try as much as possible to build a work environment that attracts, retain and motivate its employees’ to increase their productivity on continuous basis.
