Abstract : Resin is one of the main components in printing ink formulation and has an important effect on the optical, physical and mechanical properties of printed products. Four printing inks were selected for this study (acrylic, alkyd, polyurethane and epoxy) and used to evaluate the performance of their solvent-based printing inks. The experimental research design used here involved the preparation of four different inks with precisely equal quantities of pigment, solvent and additives, but different types of resin. The formulated inks were tested for various properties such as viscosity, drying time, gloss, adhesion, colour density, rub resistance, water resistance and chemical resistance in accordance with standard ASTM and ISO testing procedures. The experimental data were analysed with descriptive statistics and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) post hoc test at a 95% confidence level.
