Environmental Awareness Among Secondary School Students in Mairang, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya

Abstract : This study was done to analyse the degree of environmental awareness among the students studying in the secondary schools in Mairang of Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya. In addition to this, this study was also done to identify whether there are any significant differences in environmental awareness of the students based on gender, school management and class level. Descriptive survey design has been used for this study. Stratified random sampling technique was used for the selection of the 280 secondary school students who have been studied in this research. The Environment Awareness Ability Measure (EAAM-J) test designed by Dr. Praveen Kumar Jha (2005) was used for data collection. The collected data were analysed with the help of percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test. It has been found that most of the secondary school students had an average level of environmental awareness. No significant differences have been found in the environmental awareness of the students based on gender and school management. However, significant difference has been identified in the case of Class IX and Class X students in terms of their environmental awareness.
