Abstract : Open Access (OA) has significantly changed scholarly communication by providing free and unrestricted access to peer-reviewed literature with fewer copyright and licensing restrictions. This study explores the evolution of OA publication, including its historical origins, significant milestones, diverse models, and profound impact on scholarly research dissemination. Our comprehensive examination investigates the benefits, challenges, innovations, and prospects associated with OA to contribute to the ongoing discourse on scholarly communication and knowledge dissemination. This analysis emphasises the critical role that OA plays in empowering researchers worldwide with readily accessible literature, fostering collaboration, and enhancing the impact of scholarly work.
