The problem of waste accumulation and management has become a rising concern for India. This research paper analyses how the waste problem in India can be solved by prompting changes in the behavioural patterns of individuals and the society, with a special emphasis on Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). By analysing the current situation of the waste management policies and strategies in India, and people’s understanding of both, the paper has compiled information that can change the waste management system of India. The paper delineates methods of behavioural nudges and structural changes in accordance with behavioural insights, through which India has a high plausibility of seeing a shift towards pro-environment behaviour in its citizens.
