This work assesses the hydrochemical
properties of groundwater in parts of Afikpo and its
suitability for human uses. Groundwater samples were
collected from boreholes for hydrochemical analysis in
dry and rainy season. Twelve 12 doublet samples
collected in each season were analyzed for various
physicochemical parameters and the results compared
with World Health Organization (WHO) standard for
drinking water. The results indicate that majority of the
water samples were within the WHO standard for
drinking water. About 11Percentage of the samples were
contaminated with Calcium, Magnesium, Lead, Arsenic
and Mercury which could be as a result of anthropogenic
sources such as poor waste management, poor sewage
disposal and application of fertilizer and pesticide.
