Influence of Entrepreneurial Programmes on the Establishment of Small-Scale Business among Polytechnic Graduates in EDO North Senatorial District

Abstract : The study examined the influence of entrepreneurial programmes on the establishment of small-scale business among polytechnic graduates in Edo North Senatorial district. It employed descriptive survey design, using purposive and snowball sampling methods to select relevant respondents for the study. A total of 289 respondents selected through purposive and snowball sampling techniques were used. Four research questions raised and four hypotheses were formulated for the study. The questionnaire were validated using Cronbach Alpha, which ranges between .550 and .746. This indicated that the item satisfied the requirements of internal consistency at 68%. Data collected were analysed using statistical means to answer the research questions and one sample t-test was used to test the research hypotheses. The results showed that there is no significant difference on the relevance of entrepreneurial programmes in Polytechnics. It also revealed that attitudes of polytechnic graduates towards the establishment of small-scale business differs dues to government policy, political and insecurity. It was recommended among others that grant should be given to Polytechnic graduates by the Federal Government through a particular agency that would be functional and Private businesses should patronize polytechnic graduates for proper training on business set up and partnership among others.
