Prevalence of Shoulder Pain Among Competitive Swimmers Using the Swimmer's Functional Pain Scale (SFPS)

Abstract : Background: Shoulder pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal problems among competitive swimmers, primarily due to the repetitive overhead movements involved in swimming. Repeated loading, high training volume, muscle imbalance, poor technique, and inadequate recovery may contribute to shoulder pain and overuse injuries. Pain can affect shoulder function, stroke efficiency, training capacity, and overall athletic performance. Therefore, early identification of shoulder pain and appropriate preventive strategies are important for maintaining shoulder health and optimizing swimming performance.
