Reducing Dropout Rates Among Adolescent Northern Nigeria Girls Through Community-Based Programs and Support Systems

Abstract : Reducing dropout rates among adolescent girls in Northern Nigeria is a critical endeavour that requires focused attention and strategic interventions. The education landscape in this region faces numerous challenges, with socio- economic barriers and cultural norms often hindering girls' access to and continuation of schooling. Community-based programs and support systems have emerged as vital tools in addressing these issues, offering localized solutions that empower girls and provide them with the necessary resources to succeed academically as poverty, cultural norms are limited access to quality education. This article adopted descriptive research where data were collected from existing literature, it shows that strategies such as involvement with Community-Based Programs, Mentorship and Guidance Programs and Skill Development Initiatives for Empowerment can reduce the rate of adolescent girls’ school dropout. It concludes that by harnessing the power of community-based programs and support systems, we can make significant strides in reducing dropout rates among adolescent girls in Northern Nigeria, also through collaborative efforts, strategic interventions, and a commitment to empowering girls with education, where a more inclusive and equitable educational landscape that enables all girls to thrive and reach their full potential.
