Abstract : Background: Depression is the most common mental disorder in correctional settings. In the absence of data from the French Caribbean, its prevalence and determinants remain unknown.  Objectives: To determine the overall prevalence, identify factors associated with depression, and investigate determinants related to clinical severity among inmates treated at the SMPR of the Baie-Mahault Correctional Center.  Methodology: A cross-sectional, descriptive, and analytical study conducted from January 2024 to December 2025 at the BaieMahault correctional facility. 199 male inmates aged ≥18 years, incarcerated for ≥1 month, and who completed the PHQ-9 questionnaire.
