Abstract : Poor waste disposal practices are associated with enormous impacts. This research examined such impacts usingAluu open waste dumpsite in Rivers Stateas a case study. The essence is to obtain the socio- economic characteristics of residents close to the dumpsite. The research used Mixed Method Research approach and the cross-sectional survey research design. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were adopted. The data wereanalysed using Univariate techniques. Findings indicates that some of the impacts of open waste dumpsite on residence living around include bad smell, unhealthy environment (breeding ground for disease vectors).Further analysis revealed that the location of waste dumpsites in the study area do not conform to any planning standards. There is need to discourage the use of burrow Pits as dump sites. Construction of engineered sanitary landfill is recommended to avert the negative consequences of open waste dump sites on both residents and property value in the study area.
