The Need for Teaching Writing Skill at the Tertiary Level: A Case study

Abstract : Even after 72 years of independence, English\\ncontinues as a major second language in India. Therefore,\\nthere is a need to teach English, and to teach it to suit the\\nneeds of the second language learners. The goals of\\nteaching English have shifted, the methods of teaching\\nEnglish also need to be changed today. It is essential to\\ndiscuss the type of teaching that is desired at the tertiary\\nlevel. The teaching of English at the university presents an\\nentirely new set of problem. Much time has to be devoted\\nin building the foundations that are necessary for the\\nminimum essential use of this language at the\\nUndergraduate level.
