Among infectious diseases, viral diseases in
particular, remain the leading cause of death in humans
globally. Based on this rationale, a review work was
performed, which helped to identify a large number of
plant species harbouring antiviral molecules. These
herbal sources like oregano, sage, fennel, lemongrass,
giloy, basak have been reported individually to act as
antiviral agent. This review includes such plant species
exhibiting antiviral properties. We have selected those
herbs which can prevent diseases like influenza, SARS,
SARS-COV etc
