Abstract :
Summary
The development of macro skills in English is essential to develop proficiency in the said subject. Macro skills such as
reading, listening, speaking, viewing and writing are vital in English proficiency.
Given this premise, the researcher conducted a study to determine the level of proficiency among Grade 7 students in
relation to their writing and oral competency. Specifically, this aims to provide answers to the following questions:
What is the Profile of the Respondents in Terms of:
Sex
Highest Educational Attainment of parents
Monthly income of the family?
What is the English Proficiency Level of Grade 7 Students Along:
Listening
Reading
Speaking
Viewing
Writing
Is there a Significant Difference in the Proficiency Levels of the Students in the Macro Skills in English?
What Intervention Activities maybe Proposed to Improve the English Proficiency Level of Students?
The researcher employed the 239 Grade 7 students of Casiguran Technical Vocational School as the respondents in this
study. These respondents are chosen purposively by the researcher. The researcher employed descriptive method in
quantitative approach to determine the answers to the laid questions of the study. Appropriate statistical tools such as
frequency count and percentage to determine the proficiency level of students in English. Meanwhile, the ch’i square was
employed to find out if there is a significant difference in the proficiency level of students in English.
Findings
Based on the results of the study, the following significant findings were drawn.
