Abstract :
This study measured the influence of trait emotional intelligence and anger management on the professionalism of
police officers in Davao City. Further, the study sought to establish which exogenous variables best predict
professionalism. A total of 296 police officers were selected using simple random sampling and participated in the study.
Data were collected through a survey using a standardized instrument through Google Forms. Data were analyzed using
mean, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. The study's findings
disclosed that emotional intelligence and anger management are at a moderate level among police officers; however, in
contrast, the professionalism of police officers in Davao City is rated very high. Also, there is a correlation between the trait
of emotional intelligence and professionalism and between anger management and the professionalism of police officers.
The correlation was evident between trait emotional intelligence and professionalism; the result also disclosed a
correlation between anger management and professionalism of police officers; and indicators of the use of emotion for
facilitating thinking and caring and empathy of trait emotional intelligence as well as indicators of self-awareness and
calming strategies of anger management significantly influence professionalism of police officers.
