Abstract :
Rapid land-use conversion in rapidly urbanising areas often occurs without adequate consideration of its implications for transportation, creating growing traffic pressures and complicating urban management. This study examined the drivers of land-use conversion and their implications for traffic congestion in Gwagwalada Town, Nigeria. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted, involving 384 households selected from a study population of 140,635 residents using proportional and systematic sampling techniques. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and traffic observations at eight selected junctions.
