Abstract :
This study investigates the approaches, challenges, and strategies of elementary school teachers in Laak North
District, focusing on managing learner discipline in the classroom. Discipline is a critical aspect of effective teaching and
student development, as it influences both the learning environment and student behavior. Through semi-structured
interviews with 12 elementary school teachers, this research examines the methods employed to address behavioral issues,
the challenges teachers face, and the outcomes they observe from their approaches. The findings reveal that while teachers
rely on a combination of preventive measures, consistent reinforcement, and behavior modification strategies, challenges
such as large class sizes, lack of parental involvement, and inconsistent school policies continue to hinder effective
discipline management. Teachers also reported positive outcomes, including improved student behavior, enhanced
classroom dynamics, and the development of self-regulation skills in students. The study concludes by offering
recommendations for improving discipline management in schools, including professional development for teachers,
stronger school-home collaboration, and the need for a holistic approach to behavior management that includes clear
policies and consistent support.
